| Opening night finally arrived and certainly didn't let the TTC and the racing fraternity down with great racing, and fantastic support by all concerned. I am sure the Southern trainers would return home very happy with their achievements, as well as glowing reports from the mainland media and jockeys. I spoke to Damien Oliver after the last race and he could not be more impressed with the track and the lights, telling me it is at least as good as Moonee Valley and probably better. Chris Schulz from Sydney compared it more than favourably with Canterbury and the rest of the media were in agreeance. The public showed their support by turning up and boosting numbers to over 2500. Racing on the night was very competitive with many close finishes. The main event on the night being the Cascade Premium Knight Rider Hcp, and was won by Two Bob ($21),giving trainer Peter Luttrell a big thrill. Darren Gauci and Jason Maskiell rode a winning double each, with Ronan Keogh, Stephen Maskiell, Lee Smith and Kelvin Sanderson each riding a winner. We look forward to our next night meeting on April 29, hope to see you there. |
