| Another good attendance at The Tote Racing Centre witnessed some very competitive action on Thursday night. Family Maskiell won three races between them, with father Stephen a winning double, Petroleum for Leon Wells and Palzago for Royston Carr, and son Jason winning the 2YO Maiden on the promising colt Dash For Magic, trained by Andrew McGregor. Good news for Tassie racing is that Jason has expressed his desire to fly in for as many local meetings as possible to try and win the local Apprentices title as well as the Victorian Metropolitan Apprentices title - he currently is 8 wins off the pace in Tasmania, but has the Vic title sewn up. Top Victorian hoop Darren Gauci again showed his liking for the track with another double on board very promising filly Tula trained by John Blacker and Centenary Diamond in the main event of the evening, the Tasmanian Quality Meats Hcp over 1200M, for Southern trainer Walter McShane. Trainer Bill Ryan broke a mini drought when Delz Bells lived up to his good recent trial form to win at his second race start, beating the unlucky Stands To Reason and stablemate El Sunera. Both placegetters can be followed with some confidence in their next couple of starts. The next meeting on May 20 promises to be a beauty with plenty of good stakes to be won. It also will be our final night meeting of this season. |
