Longford Trials 22/6/10 By: Ron Riley - June 25th, 2010 This article has been read: 87 times. |
| Eight Trials were held under foggy conditions at Longford on Tuesday. Most of the winners were Maidens, but some promising ones amongst them. It was difficult to get times due to conditions, but I can report on what was visible. Trial 1 was won by Guru Rez (likely named after the owners hubby)a 2YO who at his only start ran last, but looks to have improved with a break. Trial 2 was the first of 2 winners for Leon Wells and his promising apprentice J.Lambie with My Cool One winning in workmanlike style. Trial 3 was taken out by promising filly My Regard. She also looked good in winning a trial back in the summer before taking on a very strong field in the 3YO Plate over the Launceston carnival and failing. Trial 4 was the second of the Leon Wells brigade to salute in the form of Matsqui Maid with apprentice J.Lambie in the saddle. Trial 5 was won by the Barry Campbell trained 3YO filly Astraphobic, a placegetter at Pakenham last preparation, from only three starts. Trial 6 winner Arnika has shown ability in a couple of trials and may be a likely improver in the coming weeks. Trial 7 was taken out by a 4YO gelding from the John Blacker stable called North Lad. Now this galloper has some excellent form for a maiden, having been in the first four at 9 of his 10 starts in Victoria at good midweek venues. The last of our trials was won by the Ian Hay trained Upanova, a handy type who is a class 1 horse, and a winner of 1 from 13 starts. Several of these winners are nominated either at Hobart on Sunday or at Launceston next Thursday, so they should be respected. |
