| A day of doubles and some promising performances were witnessed at Launceston on Thursday. Trainer Ken Hanson and jockey grandson, James Nevin started off the day winning with tough 2YO Shinto who seems to be getting better with each run, and making it a double later in the day with Tiger Khan winning the RL (Bob) Grinham Hcp over 1600M. Michael trinder and Remi Tremsal started their day off with a win over 1200m with highly promising filly Spring Desert trouncing her rivals at only her second race start, and continued later in the afternoon with the half sister to that filly in Arctic Spring winning second up from a spell and giving owners Vu Tu and Amanda Lockett-Tu much deserved success as they invest plenty of money into the industry. Victorian apprentice Chris Pace rode a winning double starting with Veiss in the Acelands Class 1 and backing up on the very good Winter galloper King Of Gondor in the time honoured Carrick Plate. Ishtar King has proven the find of the Winter, with his third win from as many starts in Tasmania. He continued the run of success for his stable, with a victory in the E (Ted) Cox Memorial Class 2 Hcp. Costas Me Grandee lived up to the promise he has always shown, with a strong win in the Class 4 over 1400M, with Eddie Brennen on board. The final race of the day was taken out by former smart mare Extreme Cost, who bounced back into the winners stall with a hard fought win in the Ron Evans Memorial Hcp (75), beating Obstinado and Kalangadoo. The next meeting in Launceston is on August 1, and back to a Sunday. This will be the case now until mid September. |
