| It wasn't quite out with the old in with the new, but a fitting finish to the two that had done all the bullocking yesterday, namely Conquering (last years Horse of the Year) and Lyell (last years 3YO of the Year). Conquering bolting out to a big lead, somewhat due to his saddle moving early in the race and Lyell sitting off him several lengths back, with a further margin to the bulk of the field. Entering the straight it looked likely that Conquering had Lyell at his mercy, but the tough 4YO, Lyell raised a last ditch effort and made it interesting on the line with punters divided as to who had in fact won - a fitting result -Deadheat! It looks like there will be some great duels over the coming weeks, not only with these two, but with several others. The Grenville Stud WFA was without two of its top contenders due to minor viruses, but both Meiwa's Quest and Wealthy Lad should return to racing in the next week or two. The day belonged to Gary White, training four winners and Justin Hamer, riding three. White looks like having a strong hand in the Tasmanian Guineas, with both So Fast So Good and Ebbing, impressive winners yesterday. Another bright light heading into Summer is promising mare, Speedy Sky, a strong winner of the Class 4 Hcp. Good times and an outstanding track were the recipe for another days good racing. |
